How GATE papers are marked
In GATE, each MCQ carries 1 or 2 marks; a wrong MCQ answer costs one-third of its marks (−1/3 for a 1-mark and −2/3 for a 2-mark question). MSQ (multiple select) and NAT (numerical answer) questions have no negative marking. Every paper has 65 questions for 100 marks: 10 General Aptitude questions (15 marks) and 55 subject questions (85 marks), in 3 hours.
Where these papers come from
The question papers and answer keys are the official ones published by the IIT organising GATE each year. Answers that GATE later changed or dropped follow the final key: a dropped question is shown as “marks to all”.
